Avian Influenza - situation in EgyptJuly 2009 - The Ministry of Health of Egypt has reported three new confirmed human case of avian influenza A/H5N1. The three cases ranged between 1 to 4 years old, were all hospitalized, treated with olsetamivir and have recovered.
Investigation into the source of illness indicated that all the three cases had close contacts with dead and/or sick poultry. The cases were confirmed by the Egyptian Central Public Health Laboratories. Of the 81 cases confirmed to date in Egypt, 27 have been fatal.
Avian Influenza - situation in Viet Nam 06 May 2009 - The Ministry of Health has reported a new confirmed case of human infection with the H5N1 avian influenza virus. The case, a 23 year old woman developed symptoms on 16 April, was hospitalized on 21 April, and died on 22 April. Investigation into the source of infection indicated poultry died of influenza A/(H5N1) around her household. Of the 111 cases confirmed to date in Viet Nam, 56 have been fatal.
