Avian Influenza-situation in Indonesia
The Ministry of Health of Indonesia has retrospectively announced two new cases of human infection of H5N1 avian influenza. The first case, a 38 year old male from Tangerang Municipality, Banten Province, developed symptoms on 04 July, was hospitalized on 09 July and died on 10 July. There were free roaming poultry throughout his neighborhood, including a commercial poultry pen owned by a neighbor. The second case, a 20 year old male from Tangerang District, Banten Province developed symptoms on 20 July, was hospitalized on 29 July, and died on 31 July. Reports indicate that chickens from the case's household had died in the week preceding the onset of his symptoms and that he had slaughtered and consumed some of his stock during this period. Of the 137 cases confirmed to date in Indonesia, 112 have been fatal. Avian Influenza-situation in Egypt The Ministry of Health and Population of Egypt has announced a new human case of avian influenza A(H5N1) virus infection. The case is a 2-year old male from Al-Honsanya, Skarkea Governorate. He developed symptoms on 13 April was hospitalized 14 April and is currently in the hospital. Of the 50 cases confirmed to date in Egypt, 22 have been fatal. Avian Influenza-situation in China China's health ministry reported that a 44-year old woman from the city of Shanwei in Guangdong province died of an H5N1 infection on Feb. 25, according to a statement from the World Health Organization (WHO). An investigation into the source of her infection found that she had contact with sick and dead poultry before she became ill. Of the 30 cases confirmed to date in China, 20 have been fatal. |
